Home Reading

Home reading helps build fluency, supports high comprehension, builds confidence and improves reading success. It is important to set aside a time everyday to hear your child read. The Home Reading Program is a partnership between home and school.

Students bring home books that are at their own independent reading level, which is lower than the instructional reading level they are working at with their teachers in the classroom during Guided Reading. The books are levelled from A-Z, and there are concept books for the Early Education Program. We have many new books - both fiction and non-fiction - at all levels.

Our Home Reading Program is sustained by our wonderful volunteers, who value and support children's literacy under the direction of Parkland Village's Literacy Lead.
